Why did my unopened bottle of Absolut Vodka freeze solid overnight in the freezer?

I am living in Italy for a semester. I bought a bottle of Absolut Vodka from the supermarket yesterday, put it in the freezer like I always do, and when I opened up my freezer the vodka in the bottle was frozen almost completely solid, I'd say at least 95% frozen. I was under the impression that it was impossible for hard liquor to freeze, and have never seen it happen before. What gives?!|||You've been sold fake booze.

Proper vodka will not freeze in a domestic freezer|||i think you got ripped off.|||Someone took the vodka out, and replaced it with water. Take it back to the store and get another bottle.|||maybe ur freezer has a lower temperature setting than others, and it is possible for it to freeze, it is a liquid you know.|||its a liquid that will freeze like water and water is a liquid too. all liquids freeze!!|||Perhaps you have a sub-zero freezer. Maybe it is a bottle of Absolute Water.|||Maybe the vodka sold in Italy is lower in alcohol content? You woudn't think so, but I can't think of any other reason (unless someone sold you something in an Absolut bottle that wasn't really Absolut vodka.....because you're right, it shouldn't freeze)|||You might of got the wrong thing?|||80 proof is 40% alcohol. That means 60% water. One of the ways that people used to concentrate alcohol was to freeze the mash. The water would freeze and they would pour off the concentrated alcohol.

What froze in your bottle was the water. What didn't freeze was the alcohol. And, yes, this is a way to separate the two.|||because it was morelikely to be absolute water, instead of vodka
